NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stirred emotions during his address at a massive public rally organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Salem, Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday, as he fondly remembered a BJP member who was tragically killed a decade ago.
Addressing the gathered crowd, PM Modi paid homage to three individuals connected to the district, notably highlighting the late BJP leader KN Lakshmanan. However, it was his heartfelt tribute to ‘Auditor’ Ramesh that brought a poignant pause to his speech. Ramesh, a dedicated party worker known for his eloquence, was brutally attacked and killed, leaving a void within the party and the community.
Reflecting on Ramesh’s tireless efforts and impactful oratory skills, PM Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “I can’t forget Auditor Ramesh. Unfortunately today Ramesh is not among us. Ramesh worked hard for the party, day and night, and he was a good orator. But he was killed. Today I pay my tributes to him.”
V Ramesh, a respected auditor and state general secretary based in Salem, was tragically assaulted in his own home in July 2013, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service to the BJP.
In addition to honoring Ramesh, Prime Minister Modi also recognized the significant contributions of the late Lakshmanan towards the BJP’s growth and development in Tamil Nadu, underscoring the invaluable role played by dedicated party members in shaping its trajectory.
Meanwhile, PM Modi did not shy away from addressing political issues during his speech, accusing leaders of the INDIA bloc of deliberate disrespect towards Hindu dharma. He criticized the opposition’s alleged targeting of Hinduism, highlighting what he perceived as a pattern of deliberate insults towards the religion.
“The INDI Alliance people repeatedly and deliberately insult Hinduism. Notably, every statement they make against the Hindu religion is very well thought out! The INDI Alliance of DMK and Congress does not insult any other religion. It does not utter a single word against any other religion. However, when it comes to the Hindu religion, they don’t leave any chance to abuse and insult it,” PM Modi asserted.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underscored the growing political tensions in the region ahead of the upcoming elections, with PM Modi emphasizing the BJP’s momentum and the alleged discomfort it has caused to its political adversaries. As the political landscape in Tamil Nadu heats up, PM Modi’s emotional tribute serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by dedicated party workers in the pursuit of their ideals.
